Re: Plastic, gas and coffee.
We could dispose of everything bar newspapers via Kerbside which collected 7 or 8 truckloads of stuff once a month locally until they were shut down. They could have gotten as much more if they had collected more often as many couldn't hold the mounds of stuff that collect in a month. Some of us disposed of glass locally in between times & compost appropriate materials.
Having encouraged people to act environmentally over a number of years it's a right kick in the teeth to close Kerbside before an alternative is put in place.
Imagine then having the nerve to start charging for waste disposal & those that make no attempt to reuse or recycly pay the same as those that minimise waste. And of course we dump our wast on the people of Kill in Kildare etc..
Likewise Wheely bins are forced on us. I have no way of getting these monstrosities into my back garden except through the front hall via 6 steps & I wont be able to lift if like the small bin I use now. The latest circular says they won't take normal bins after wheelys are introduced & they'll only be given to those who have paid up, which I haven't in line with the Campaign against Service Charges policy.
I was in ACRA years ago when we campaigned for the abolition of rates. Among the factors justifying their abolition were 1 that a person on £10,000 paid the same as a next door neighbour earning 50k or more, 2, that this country has a population similar to the Greater Manchester area(497 Sq miles v 26,000). It doesn't need, & cannot afford, several taxation systems.
It seems to me that with all the environment groups, the green party, & supposed committment by govt etc environmental concerns are getting out of hand rather than improving. I want to be convinced I'm wrong!
I made a an effort to stop the removal of milk bottles- wrote to the dairies, the Green party, local tds, the minister &, I'm fairly sure, yourselves (Voice). I attended a "rally" organised by the Green party at the Custom House. It was a damp squib, a PR photo opportunity- no bottle whatsoever.
